my mother was brought up in a fairly strict catholic household. she now identifies as spiritual and moved away from catholicism at around 18 years old. I never really talked to my mum deeply about her catholic upbringing other than her telling me her deceased father would have been heartbroken to find out one of the priests at their church was years later outed as a pedophile. she has also mentioned briefly wondered if her catholicism is where some of her tendency to feel guilt steamed from.
